Get Natural Energy Highs From Your Food

Working out requires a lot of will power but all the commitment in the world will be of little use to you if you have no energy to spur you onto the treadmill. Eating the right foods can be a huge advantage if you are looking for natural ways to increase your energy levels.

I am going to take you through some food groups and the types of foods within these groups that offer your body the fuel it needs to get going.

Vegetables – Perhaps the most obvious choice to start with as there are so many vegetables that are packed full of energy. Some of the most successful energy boosting veggies are spinach, broccoli, sprouts and asparagus.

Eggs – Maybe not the most obvious choice but eggs are packed full of protein and provide packets of energy throughout the day.

Beans and lentils – Kidney beans, baked beans and lentils are all great energy sources as they are full of carbohydrates and potassium.

Nuts – Nuts are also useful and some like to think nuts as the natural Red Bull of the workout world. Soy nuts, peanuts and almonds are all perfect for munching on when you get hungry and make the ideal substitute for chips and candy.

Fruits – Vitamin C is nature’s way of halting that tired feeling that often crops up in the middle of the day and fruits such as limes, lemons and oranges are packed with it.

Seeds – Seeds are the same as nuts in the way they deliver energy boosts to you in the form of a snack food and pumpkin and sunflower seeds are the two to look out for.

Yoghurts and fruit juices – If you are looking to eat foods that will lift your energy levels then snacking on yoghurts and drinking fruit juices is ideal. Fruit juices such as orange are packed with vitamin C that works by heightening your energy and yoghurts are full of Vitamin B that works to turn other nutrients in the body into energy.

As well as all the energy busting foods and drinks you can also eat healthy to increase your energy levels throughout the day. Avoiding starchy and fried foods is a great start and stick to fish, skinless chicken, salads (minus creamy dressings!) and fresh vegetables for a few weeks and see how much better you feel.

Great article! Seeds are so powerful, especially pumpkin seeds! When consumed correctly, they give a huge energy boost.
